Harbour Island @harbourislandbahamas in the Bahamas is our favorite slice of paradise to escape to anytime of year.   We marvel at the tranquil turquoise waters, swim with the turtles, walk along the pink sand beaches and relax in the tropical breeze on Harbour Island OR on this most recent trip we strayed off the beaten path to this gorgeous getaway called The Other Side Hotel @othersidehotel.

Travel & Lodging

Fly American Airlines non-stop from Miami, United non-stop from Fort Lauderdale or Miami or fly a charter airline like Makers Air - these airlines all land at ELH (North Eleuthera). From this airport, you'll take a five minute taxi to Three Island Dock where you will take a short five to seven minute boat ride to “The Other Side.”

Rustic Glam - they call it glamping and we concur much to our delight we enjoyed each and every step of their eclectic rustic decor way.

We stayed in one of the Beach Huts that had a daybed and outdoor shower, but you can upgrade to a Tent that offers a bit more space; both are beachside. You can also choose to go above (with views overlooking the property) to one of their Sheds or Shacks.

All have views of the palm trees and ocean/harbor. And, if you are an early bird you can catch the sunrise from any of the delightfully designed and decorated rooms. None will disappoint!

Things to Do

Fun things to do at the hotel:
- Paddleboard
- Kayak
- Lie on the secluded beach
- Lounge by the pool if the salt water ocean is not your cup of tea
- Play human sized chess, checkers, or various other classic games
- Hammock yourself into a coma or chill by the bar

There are many excursions such as The Blue Hole, Bat Cave, Turtles and of course Harbour Island that is a quick boat ride away if you so choose. We relished in the peace and quiet, read, worked a bit and napped with the ocean breeze coming through our Beach Hut door.

Dining

Indulge in their sumptuous cuisine and don’t leave them without enjoying their french fries from heaven and beet hummus that's off the charts delicious and gluten free & vegan. Fresh fish blackened or freshly grilled is always a good idea. They grow all their own herbs locally and even some of the fruits and vegetables are harvested nearby.

Shopping

A short boat ride to Dunmore Town on Harbour Island will get you all the retail therapy and island nightclubs you need. Read our blog from the past for some of our favorites.
